New SOEC ticket presale record set by Carrie Underwood fans!

New SOEC ticket presale record set by Carrie Underwood fans!

Penticton, BC: A new South Okanagan Events Centre record was set last week during the Carrie Underwood ticket presale and on sales; the reigning Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year (only the seventh woman in the show’s 42 year history to take that crown) will be coming to Penticton on Wednesday, December 15 with Sons of Sylvia.

Licensed club seat and suite holders were offered their seats in advance of the public on sale as a benefit to their ownership agreements. Fans could also purchase presale tickets in advance by paying a membership fee for Carrie Underwood’s official Fan Club, or by signing up for free membership of the South Okanagan Events Centre Cyber Club at www.soec.ca. The tickets allocated for presale were sold out by the time the public on sale occurred on Friday, August 20, the first time in the SOEC’s history a presale has ever sold out! The closest contender to date has been the Brooks & Dunn concert which took place on October 16, 2009.

On Friday morning, some ticket purchasers began camping outside the building with sleeping bags and camping chairs at 6:00AM, with a few patrons having driven from as far away as Armstrong to obtain the coveted tickets. The early rise paid off, as the first five people in line were able to obtain front row tickets as soon as the SOEC Box Office opened at 10:00AM. Video footage of these super fans can be seen on the South Okanagan Events Centre YouTube channel, ROCKtheSOEC.

Tickets are almost sold out for the December concert and can still be purchased at the South Okanagan Events Centre Box Office, Monday to Friday from 10am – 4pm, the Wine Country Visitor Centre, charge by phone at 1-877-SOEC-TIX (763-2849) or buy online at www.ValleyFirstTix.com.

Gonzo Magazine Presents..the Boyd Autobody and Glass, Pryme Group Imagery UJC Golf Tournament!

IT’S TIME TO COME TOGETHER ONCE AGAIN!
Gonzo Magazine presents…
Ugly Jacket Classic Golf Tournament!

History
The Ugly Jacket Classic Golf Tournament started with some old friends getting together once a year starting with Brad Krauza’s (Publisher of Gonzo Magazine) wedding party when he decided to continue the fun every year and eventually putting some funds towards charity while we do it. Since the fires of 2003, Brad has put on a few cancer fundraisers for self employed musicians with children called “Come Together for Musicians” helping those in need.

Come Together once again!
This year we are helping out a little 3 year old girl Serenity who is fighting Leukemia and her mom Sheri who has had a little bit of help from her family since Serenity first was diagnosed but needs more over the next year at least.
None of us can even imagine if this were to happen to one of our children or anyone’s child.
This is all about taking one main stress off of their already stressful situation and we all can make a difference in Serenity and her mom’s life right now.

Info on Serenity and who we are supporting this year
Sheri, Serenity’s mom is a single mom and has been since August before she was diagnosed.
Serenity was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (A.L.L) September 24 2008 and Started her treatments of Chemotherapy September 25 2008 She was only 21months old and for 8.5 months we lived in Vancouver at the Ronald McDonald House as Serenity underwent intense chemo and then at the end of April 2009 we were able to return home to Kelowna but Serenity still has to take her oral chemo pills three times a week and every 4 weeks she has to go to the Hospital for Chemo through IV and every two weeks Serenity has to go to the hospital for Pentamadine that helps her lungs against infections etc… Once every three months we have to return to Children’s Hospital for treatments and Spinal Tab where they make sure the leukemia cells is not in her spine. Serenity is such a trooper and is so used to being poked that she thinks this is a normal thing and tries to do the nurses job.

Let’s all come together to help little Serenity! I know that it WILL make a big difference in their lives.

CineVic is calling for submissions and registrations from Vancouver Island and Gulf Island Musicians and Filmmakers for the 5th Annual Reel-to-Reel Music Video Challenge

Call for Submissions & Registrations
For Immediate Release

contact: Krista Loughton (250) 389-1590, office@cinevic.ca

Subject line: CineVic is calling for submissions and registrations from Vancouver Island and Gulf Island Musicians and Filmmakers for the 5th Annual Reel-to-Reel Music Video Challenge

The Victoria-based CineVic Society of Independent Filmmakers is currently seeking submissions from local musicians and filmmakers looking to participate in our annual Reel-to-Reel Challenge.

Now entering its fifth year, this popular annual event pairs up award winning filmmakers with local musical artists of all genres.
Reel to Reel will see the creation of a short musical film built around the chosen artist’s song culminating in a screening night where awards will be handed out to the best entrants.

Not only is this event a great networking tool, it provides great exposure for the artists, as well as cash and prizes. Each year, when the finished films are screened they are also judged by the audience and by a jury panel comprised of a lot of local talent, ranging from filmmakers, musicians, writers and programmers from local radio stations. This is a great forum to be both seen and heard.
This year’s screening will be held Thursday September 16th, 2010 at the Victoria Event Centre.

As in previous years, CineVic is hoping to get submissions from musical artists working in any genre; from folk, country, jazz, bluegrass, and electronica, to world beat, classical, indie rock, metal, noise, experimental, you name it! The exposure these artists stand to receive is substantial, and past Reel-to-Reelers have been very successful.

The musical films themselves also defy description in the variety they offer; expect to see animation, haunting found footage, experimental and traditional linear narratives. The only limitations filmmakers have are their imagination!
Local musician Oliver Swain, a former Reel to Reel judge says: “I was blown away by the quality and range of music produced by local artists.”

BC based filmmaker Ana de Lara’s short film “In Control” started as a Reel-to-Reel project and went on to win awards and screen in festivals all over North America, including a Jury Prize in 2008 at Toronto’s esteemed Commffest Film Festival.
Deadline for Submissions and Registrations:  Friday August 13th, 2010.

For entry forms contact Krista at 250-389-1590 or office@cinevic.ca and for more information visit www.cinevic.ca.
