SOULmate – the new album from JUNO award-winning jacksoul

SOULmate – the new album from JUNO award-winning jacksoul
in stores Tuesday, December 1, 2009
All proceeds from the sale of SOULmate will go to the Haydain Neale Family Trust.

(Toronto, ON)  Juno Award winning R&B/Soul artist jacksoul, led by Haydain Neale, returns with SOULmate, a collection of all new remarkable songs that tell of love, hope and endurance, set to his trademark unstoppable beats.  With hits like “Can’t Stop”, which was the #1 Most Spun Canadian track for four weeks in 2000, and “Still Believe in Love”, the #1 Most Spun Canadian track and the #1 track on all formats simultaneously in 2004, jacksoul has been internationally heralded as an incredible artist that delivers soul stirring and intoxicating music.
On November 3, 2009, the first new single from jacksoul in over 3 years, “Lonesome Highway”, will be serviced to CHR/AC/Hot AC/Urban radio and made available for purchase on iTunes.  This striking song was co-produced by Haydain Neale and Ron Lopata, and co-written by Haydain and noted Canadian guitarist, Stuart Cameron.  The lyrics are powerful and underscore the beauty of a journey that is fulfilled with the love and support of the people around him.  The message is especially bittersweet, given the incredible path that Haydain’s life has taken in the last two years.  His legendary voice has been missing from the Canadian music scene since a serious motor accident in the summer of 2007, but Haydain’s strength and perseverance during his recovery have been moving and inspiring.
Over the past two years, with the unwavering love and support of his wife Michaela, daughter Yasmin and numerous others, Neale finished production on the album he started almost 3 years ago. Back in the studio with his fellow jacksoul band mates over the last 6 months, Haydain has been quoted as saying: ”It takes me more time now, but I still orchestrate the room.”
An inspiring journey indeed that Haydain hopes continues to send the message he wrote so eloquently in the liner notes of his last album mySOUL – “I think music can heal and educate. If jacksoul never makes another recording, I’ll always be proud that our music was a positive force for not just love between couples, but love of self, community and the world. It’s been a crazy place, this earth, since the last record. And if we could all exercise some true tolerance of each others’ existence; some understanding of each others’ cultures; and accurate knowledge of our common histories, we would then find ourselves in a much better world indeed.” Haydain has now amassed this new body of work – some of the most meaningful and creative writings in jacksoul’s history – and created SOULmate.
Executive produced by Haydain and Michaela Neale, SOULmate is the fifth release from jacksoul, and is comprised of ten new tracks written before Haydain’s accident. It charts the return of a powerful voice in R&B/Soul music, a potent mix of smooth vocals and tight beats, showcased in the simplicity of brilliant songwriting
Over the course of his career, jacksoul has earned a well-deserved reputation as a gifted songwriter. Haydain was awarded the SOCAN Award for “R&B Song of the Year,” a Canadian Urban Music Award for “Songwriter of the Year,” 2 JUNO Awards for “Best R&B/Soul Recording”; and has achieved numerous #1 chart positions for singles and videos, across multiple radio formats, MuchMoreMusic and Musimax.

All proceeds from the sale of SOULmate will go to the Haydain Neale Family Trust.

JANA MASHONEE TO PERFORM SONGS FROM NEW MOON BORN

JANA MASHONEE TO PERFORM SONGS FROM NEW MOON BORN AND SPEAK WITH SQUAMISH NATION YOUTH
AT THE CHIEF JOE MATHIAS CENTRE ON OCTOBER 29 FROM 6PM-8PM

October 26, 2009 (Vancouver, BC):  Jana Mashonee will be in Vancouver, BC for a promotional visit this Wednesday, October 28 and Thursday, October 29.  In addition to her hectic interview schedule, Jana will take time to reach out to the Squamish Nation youth on October 29 (Thursday) at the Chief Joe Mathias Centre in North Vancouver (100 Capilano Road).  She will also perform a couple of songs from her most recent release, New Moon Born.

New Moon Born has already picked up an award for Best Pop Album at the most recent Indian Summer Music Awards and has received four NAMMY nominations (Native American Music Award) as well as a nod for a 2009 Independent Music Award.  Most recently, Jana Mashonee received a NAMMY for Song of the Year at the 11th Annual Native American Music Awards for her stunning rendition of the Sam Cooke classic, “A Change Is Gonna Come”, featuring Derek Miller.

New Moon Born represents a significant departure from Jana’s previous endeavors, taking on a decidedly more upbeat rhythm and blues flavour.  “The album is about rebirth and new beginnings; it reflects a phase in my life that has taken on a different shape and direction from anything I’ve done before,” she says.  “This music conveys my personal truths and beliefs.”  In addition to providing all the vocals and piano, Jana wrote and co-produced the album.
The Lumbee Indian/part Tuscarora (Six Nations) singer-songwriter has performed to sold-out audiences in the U.S. and abroad, including the Aboriginal Achievement Awards show in Toronto, and the Luxembourg Military Tattoo, a charity event that raised over 2.5 million dollars for children’s cancer research.

Despite her fast-paced career, Jana has still found time to give back by establishing her non-profit organization, Jana’s Kids, in 2002.  Jana’s Kids Foundation awards Native Youth with educational scholarships to help them to achieve their dreams.  All proceeds from the sales of “A Change is Gonna Come” go to the foundation.  In 2009, Jana’s Kids awarded two scholarships in the Academic and Athletic categories to two Native Youth and for the first time from North Carolina.
Check out Jana Mashonee at the Chief Joe Mathias Centre (100 Capilano Road, North Vancouver) this Thursday, October 29 from 6pm-8pm.

As Viva Musica approaches the end of its 19th season of high quality theatre in Kelowna, we are proud to present to you “Always… Patsy Cline.”

This is an intimate look at the woman behind the legend, an insider’s story as only a true friend could tell it.   This production highlights 19 of Patsy’s popular country songs. If you like songs like “Crazy”, “She’s Got You”, “Back in Baby’s Arms”, “Walking After Midnight”, “I Fall To Pieces”, and “Your Cheating Heart”,  you’re going to love this show!
“Always… Patsy Cline”, originally directed and written by Ted Swindley, was one of the top ten shows produced across North America in 1998.  Viva Musica is proud to welcome back to the stage the captivating Michelle MacTaggart and the award-winning Danielle St. Pierre.

“Always…Patsy Cline”  is more than a tribute to the legendary country singer who died tragically at age 30 in a plane crash in 1963.  The show is based on a true story about Cline’s friendship with a fan from Houston named Louise Seger, who befriended the star in a Texas honky-tonk in 1961, and continued a correspondence with Cline until her death.
“Always Patsy Cline” runs October 29th to November 1st at the Mary Irwin Theatre in the Rotary Centre for the Arts, directed by the founders of Viva Musica and Angel Award winning duo of Neal Facey and Roslyn Frantz.

REBA MCENTIRE at the South Okanagan Events Centre

REBA MCENTIRE
WITH SPECIAL GUESTS
CRYSTAL SHAWANDA AND MELISSA PETERMAN
TICKETS GO ON SALE FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30TH AT 10:00 A.M.

Penticton BC: GIANT FM and B103 present the incomparable REBA MCENTIRE with special guests Crystal Shawanda and Melissa Peterman at the South Okanagan Events Centre on Wednesday, March 17th, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $85* and go on sale Friday, October 30th at 10:00 a.m. exclusively through www.ValleyFirstTIX.com  the SOEC Box Office, the Wine Country Visitors Centre or charge by phone at 1-877-763-2849. (*additional service charges apply).
As Reba embarks on an exciting new chapter of her career with the much-anticipated release of Keep On Loving You, her debut album with The Valory Music Co., it is readily apparent that she’s not your typical icon.

Reba has amassed the sort of career statistics that ensures legendary status in popular music– more than 55 million in album sales, 33 No. 1 hits, 2 Grammys, seven Country Music Association Awards (CMAs), 12 Academy of Country Music Awards (ACMs), nine People’s Choice Awards and 15 American Music Awards. The Oklahoma quadruple threat has also found success in television, where her self-titled primetime TV series was a top-rated sitcom for six seasons, on Broadway, where she received rave reviews for her irresistible performance in Annie Get Your Gun, and in film. (And there’s a best-selling autobiography, as well as the popular Reba collection at Dillard’s featuring women’s clothing and footwear and bed and bath specialty items.)

What separates Reba from other cultural trailblazers with decades-long careers is that she is hotter than ever. Her name remains a familiar sight atop the charts, now nestled among a generation of artists who have been strongly influenced by her music and career path. “Strange,” the sassy debut single from Keep on Loving You, is the fastest-rising solo single and highest solo chart debut of her 33-year career.

The new album is the follow-up to Reba Duets, which hit No. 1 on both pop and country album charts. Her last 13 studio albums have each received platinum status for reaching 1 million in sales.

“I think it’s a new chapter, I really do,” Reba says of her entertainment career. “I’m back to only my music. In the last 10 years, I’ve either had TV shows, Broadway or something else going on. Basically this is a time when I can really concentrate and focus on my music. This being the first solo album in six years is very exciting to me, as is the new chapter with the record label and new excitement in the music again.

Keep on Loving You is a collection of 13 songs that is quintessential Reba. It’s a sound that is contemporary, fresh and relevant, yet still true to her traditional country roots.  “I still go with the same formula I always have,” she says. “When a song moves me, I will sing it and hopefully it will move you. I just like to sing different songs. I think it goes back to that attention-span thing for me. Mama always said I had the attention span of a 2-year-old. I like to sing an up-tempo kick-butt song and then a ballad. ‘I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry’ is one of my favorite songs and then go into ‘Respect’ or something like ‘Strange’ or “Just When I Thought I’d Stopped Loving You.’”

“I’m excited about being with the new record label,” she says. “I’m excited about this new album. I’m excited where I am in my life, my age,  that radio is still playing my music and that fans still want to hear my music and see me perform. I’m very grateful, appreciative and blessed.”

Don’t miss an incredible evening with the legendary country singer REBA MCENTIRE at the SOEC March 17th, 2010!

Tickets to ALL events at the South Okanagan Events Centre are available at SOEC Box Office, the Penticton and Wine Country Visitors Centre, online at www.valleyfirstTIX.com or charge by phone at 1-877-763-2849.

VAMPYRE WEEKEND

Oct. 30 – Nov. 1

Could the very idea of an evil so base as vampirism represent a kind of contagion? Few gothic fantasies have enjoyed such enduring popularity. The vampire has scarcely gone out of style since Bram Stoker synthesized several macabre strands of history and folklore in his novel Dracula a little over a century ago.

Even so, it seems like vampires are everywhere right now, on our TV screens, in the bookstores, and in the movie theatres. Strikingly, the aristocratic Transylvanian count is out. Today’s vampire is a more likely a mixed-up youth, confused and conflicted about his carnal appetites, dangerous addictions and predisposition for the dark. Do these semi-sympathetic modern day demons have something to tell us about our own murky desires?

Come spend Hallowe’en weekend with like-minded ghouls and geeks and find out for yourself. That is, if you dare…
