BRITAIN’S OYSTERBAND CELEBRATE THEIR PEARL ANNIVERSARY WITH A CLASSIC ACOUSTIC ALBUM AND CANADIAN TOUR
Toronto, ON – Britain’s folk-rock band Oysterband celebrate their 30th anniversary with an all-new acoustic album The Oxford Girl & Other Stories (Conveyor Canada / Universal Music Canada) and a coast to coast Canadian tour in support of the release. The band are excited to be returning for their 10th Canadian visit with an album of rearranged and reinvented classic Oysterband songs from all periods of their history. The album is the band’s autobiography in song with an acoustic approach and simplified direction bringing a focus to vocals, harmonies and instrumentation.
Oysterband’s members Alan Prosser (vocals, guitar), John Jones (vocals, melodeon) and Ian Telfer (violin, concertina) have been together for over 30 years, first meeting at the legendary Dukes Folk Club in Whistable in the late 1970s, and were be joined by Chopper (bass guitar, cello, vocals) in 1990 and Dil Davies (drums) in 2007 to complete the Celtic folk group. The band have toured in 35 countries and played an extraordinary variety of festivals and venues and have made more than a dozen studio albums. The 2007 album Meet You There was their last album of entirely new material, and was also considered their best, helping the band receive two awards at the BBC Folk Awards (including Best Group). The new The Oxford Girls & Other Stories is a complement to Meet You There with the band’s 14 favourite songs from their extensive career, rethought and re-arranged so that the band brings something new to each track.
Oysterband have several Canadian connections on The Oxford Girl & Other Stories, with Great Big Sea having success with their single When I’m Up I Can’t Get Down which they recently performed at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver and the Rankin Family covering By Northern Light. The band’s modern and fresh interpretation of their classic songs blended with old and new material will be showcased on their Canadian tour. Oysterband is considered one of Britain’s great live bands with an undeniable chemistry and irresistible on-stage presence. Their musicianship and love of performing combined with their live energy on stage will bring their fans a remarkable show with many, many encores.
